Norfolk Constabulary: Home Watch schemes receive a boost

Home Watch scheme

28 April 2011

Neighbouring residents in Watton are working with the police to
take a united stand against thieves.

Home Watch representatives have received a household security
boost in the form of an innovative forensic liquid
SelectaDNA.

The unique DNA liquid is applied to valuable items, making
property virtually worthless to thieves. In the event of a theft,
police officers can positively identify any marked property as well
as offenders.

A number of Home Watch schemes in the Watton area have been
given this crime prevention tool.

Watton Home Watch representative PCSO Joe Jermy said:
SelectaDNA kits have been offered to residents who are part of a
Home Watch scheme in the Watton vicinity. We hope that this
initiative will offer some reassurance to local people.”

James Brown, Sales Director for Selectamark, which produces the
SelectaDNA product, said: “We are very happy to support this new
scheme in Watton and are confident that it will be successful in
its aim.

In other residential crime reduction initiatives across
the UK, SelectaDNA has proved to be an effective deterrent to
theft, reducing burglary by as much as 85% in some areas.”
