During a visit to the region the Tory cabinet minister will go to Norwich Station where he will pledge funds to rail infrastructure and is expected to announce a raft of projects. A senior transport source said there would be positive noises and a spending announcement. He will be hosted by Norwich MP Chloe Smith, who has been heading the East Anglia Rail Manifesto Once in a Generation.

All of the region s MPs have clubbed together to lobby the Treasury and the Department for Transport for faster journey times, more reliable journeys and better quality trains. The chancellor will also be visiting businesses in Lowestoft and Norwich and speaking to business leaders in the city. The MPs leading the campaign met the chancellor last week to discuss rail investment.

Ms Smith, Ipswich MP Ben Gummer and Witham MP Priti Patel said that following the meeting they believed the argument about the return on investment improvements could make had been taken on by the holder of the purse strings. Norwich MP Chloe Smith said: I have high hopes that our campaigning to the chancellor and DfT in person will pay dividends. It is obviously clear what rail improvements will mean to our region.
