Principal Resigns From IES Breckland

Sherry Zand, who has been at IES Breckland since it opened as a free school last year, has resigned from her position as principal at the school.

Interim principal Peter John Fyles, who is also chairman of IES in the UK, will take over the role with immediate effect until a permanent replacement is appointed.

The decision to step down was made by Ms Zand over the weekend following a meeting with the IES board and CEO.

Mr Fyles said that the search for a new permanent principal is already underway and that they would be looking for an experienced principal to take the school forward.

Staff and pupils were made aware of the news this morning however the school’s own website had already been updated to remove references to, and photos of, Ms Zand following her departure.

In a letter home to parents, Mr Fyles wrote “I am an experienced principal and teacher. I have worked for 25 years in education in both Sweden and the United Kingdom. My career has included work at every level of the teaching profession.

“My role is as chief operating officer of IES in Sweden as well as the chairman of IES in the UK.

As such I already have a close working relationship with the school, the board of governors and the SABRES trust. I am to lead the school after Ms Zand has chosen to move back Surrey to be closer to her parents and to support her daughter Farrah in returning to her old school. Although she is saying farewell to IES UK Breckland she will still be working within IES in a new role.

“My main priorities now are the on-going education of the students, which will continue at high quality without interruption, and the recruitment of further committed and qualified teaching staff who will make a significant contribution to the quality of the education the students receive, including of course a new principal to lead the school in the long term.

“Tim Lakin, IES UK Manager, and I would like to thank Ms Zand for her sterling work in starting and running the school.

Her contribution has been invaluable and means that Brandon has a good school on a sound footing.

Thanks to her work we are in a strong position to take the school forward to further success.

We look forward to her further contribution within IES.”
