A woman stabbed a budding Romeo in the stomach after he tried to chat her up in a pub and told her she was fit , a court heard.

Marie Watton , 25, took great exception to the comment made by Jonathan Barras, 27, when he tried his luck on a night out in Telford, Shrops.

Shrewsbury Crown Court heard a brawl broke out in the Duke of York pub between the two groups of friends after she spurned his advances on January 16.

After Watton s pal was punched in the face she ran over the road to her best friend s house to fetch a kitchen knife and fumed He is having it now .

The court heard Watton plunged the six inch blade into the stomach of Mr Barras as he walked to another pub.

The single stab wound cut through Mr Barras liver, kidney and small bowel and caused a collapsed lung.

He needed emergency four-hour surgery to save his life.

On Tuesday Watton was warned she faced a double-figure jail sentence by Judge Robin Onions after she pleaded guilty to wounding with intent.

The judge added: He said she was fit, didn t he?

I thought that was a compliment, isn t it?

Prosecutor Adam Warner said there was a significant degree of premeditation and she had taken great exception to Mr Barras comment.

He added: There was a remark made to her by Mr Barras to which she took great exception.

The CCTV shows her moving towards him at the bar in an extremely aggressive way, and it looks in all the world that she has in fact headbutted him.

She did not, but fighting broke out and she took an active part.

Mr Barras punched Matty Warrender, a friend of Watton s, hard on the nose and there was blood everywhere.

Marie Watton saw that and immediately said he is having it now .

The court heard the weapon was never found but a bloodstained black leather jacket discovered in Watton s loft by police was the same as one she was wearing on the night of the attack.

She was remanded in custody for reports to be prepared and will be sentenced on January 6.
