Interview with Development Coach Matt Embling ahead of the big clash.
1. The turnaround since the 129-point defeat by Geelong in round 15 has been incredible.
With the Zebras season looking dead and buried heading into the bye, what have you seen as major factor(s) in the turnaround?
Matt Embling: The boys have been fantastic since the Geelong game. There is a real strong resolve within the playing group to give it their collective best for the remaining games of the year. The Werribee game shortly after was a fantastic team effort, which catapulted the team into the 2014 finals series.
We know if we can replicate that work rate and effort we can do well at the pointy end of the season.
2 Who are key player(s) from Port Melbourne that you will need to try to nullify on Saturday?
Embling: Dan Connors the joint Frosty Miller Medallist has been a very good player all year for Port Melbourne. Additionally they have some real quality in the midfield with the likes of James Magner, Toby Pinwall and Tom O Sullivan being prominent in many games this year. Not forgetting Chris Cain who is also a quality player for the Borough.
What are the key areas Sandringham will need to focus on to give themselves a chance to win the Semi Final?
Embling: We need to work hard for the whole game to give ourselves the best chance to defeat Port Melbourne. It will be a tough assignment to travel to North Port Oval but I am confident we will give a good showing on Saturday.
4. Kenny Ong was best on ground against Collingwood with four goals and 18 disposals.
How have you seen his season so far and how important is he to the side s structure this weekend?
Embling: Kenny has been fantastic throughout the season. The output against Collingwood was a just reward for the work he puts in each week. He prepares himself as well as any AFL listed player who has played for Sandringham this year.
I really hope from a personal perspective that he gets the opportunity at the next level in much the same way Tommy Langdon has.
Where will the game be won or lost?
Embling: I feel that the game will be won and lost in the midfield as most are.
Both sides have potent forward lines so it could be a high scoring encounter on Saturday.
