'real deal' says Tottenham legend Teddy Sheringham
Teddy Sheringham is adamant Tottenham striker Harry Kane is the ‘real deal’ and believes the 22-year-old can continue his rich vein of form for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season.
The Spurs centre forward scored 31 goals in all competitions last season and is now firmly established as the club’s main attacking threat ahead of both Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado.
Kane’s breakthrough campaign also resulted in a senior England cap in March, but his exploits could see the striker treated to increased attention from Premier League defenders in the future.
Given that the youngster’s rise to the pinnacle of the game has been a meteoric one there are concerns that he is at risk of burn out, but Sheringham has tipped his countryman to continue to improve.
“When you have the qualities Harry has I d thoroughly expect him to do exactly what he did last year. I don t think he s a flash in the pan or a one-season wonder.
“I really think he s the real deal and wants to learn and if it doesn t come as easy for him as last year he ll find a way to do it in other ways, said Sheringham, who was speaking exclusively to 888sport1 ahead of the new season.
Sheringham has also backed Kane’s decision to stay at White Hart Lane as the right one for his development after the striker was linked with a move away from Spurs earlier in the summer.
He s at where he s at and that s a very sensible decision to take at the moment. He should be honoured still to play for Tottenham – and the way he speaks he is.
He s loving every minute of it so he hasn t got eyes for anyone else, Sheringham added.
