Dear Resident,

Great news for Great Yarmouth Jobs and Growth

It s been a fantastic week for Great Yarmouth business, with some excellent news regarding our local area. Scottish Power confirmed a 2.5bn investment in the East Anglia ONE windfarm and on the back of that news came the announcement that Peel Ports has been selected as the port for construction and installation activities. It s wonderful to see Great Yarmouth directly benefiting from the East Anglia ONE project.

With so many offshore windfarm projects being developed off the coast of East Anglia, this bodes well for future investment and job opportunities for the region, and I m delighted that Great Yarmouth will directly benefit from this investment.

I m also delighted to see that Seajacks have launched Scylla, the newest vessel in their fleet. The purchase of this latest offshore wind vessel shows a firm commitment to the UK offshore energy industry. It s great to see her here and ready to start work in Great Yarmouth.

And more good news came from Bateman Ground Works, whose staff have voted to keep their business in Great Yarmouth and are on the FTSE 1000 businesses to inspire Britain list for the second year in a row, having won building contracts across Norfolk worth millions of pounds.

Bateman Ground Works are looking to take on another 40 staff by June, and are also looking to take on more apprentices.

Campaigning in Great Yarmouth

I ve been out campaigning in sunny Bradwell with Councillor Carl Smith and Conservative candidates David Drewitt, Julia Miller, George Rogers and Emma Flaxman-Taylor. I explain further in the video below why it s so important that we get our message out to ensure we return a Conservative Council in Great Yarmouth on May 5th.

EU Referendum

The news has been dominated by the EU Referendum in the past week.. Mine is just one vote, I am not voting in Parliament on this issue on behalf of my constituents, but as an individual, and my vote will count in the same way everyone else s does on 23rd June.

However, carefully considered my position on this, I have decided to Vote Remain, and have given my reasons for doing so below, in particular highlighting why I believe that Britain s membership of a reformed European Union is beneficial to Great Yarmouth.

In Parliament

As Housing and Planning Minister, I am determined that the 86% of people who want to own a home of their own can do so, which is why how many houses we build is so important, especially to our local young people who want to get on the housing ladder.

The link to my article below in ConHome sets out why and how we are planning to build 1 million new homes in the lifetime of this parliament:

East Anglia Children s Hospices (EACH) provide at home and hospice care for children and young people with life threatening conditions.

They were in parliament this week and it was good to meet with their Chief Executive Graham Butland, to hear about the excellent work that this important local charity do in our area.

Best wishes,
