Memorial wreath laying at Peterborough United ground before the Swindon game for Posh fan Keith Quilter EMN-160227-153838009

10:26 Friday 04 March 2016

A normal Saturday afternoon at the football was celebrated by Peterborough United fans last Saturday as they sang their heart out for one of their own who died suddenly aged just 39.

Big Posh fan Keith Quilter died of a blood clot to the heart on February 3, leaving behind children Adam (11) and Abi (8) as well as ex-wife Tammy, partner Emma and stepchildren Chloe (7) and Jack (4).

The qualified carpenter, who spent many years working at the former Freemans warehouse in Westwood, was just one month away from turning 40 when he passed away.

Keith was a regular in the crowd supporting Posh whether the team was playing home or away, and last Saturday a large group of people congregated at the Cross Keys pub in Oundle Road before walking to the London Road ground where they laid a wreath in his memory.

The ABAX Stadium was then filled with joyous chanting in Keith s honour as the contingent standing just outside the ground paid tribute in fine fashion to their friend.

Keith was the godfather to Helen Paulucci s son Stefan (15). Helen said: It went brilliantly, it was better than I expected it to be.

Once they went under the bridge in Oundle Road they were singing about one of their own. It was quite overwhelming.

There must have been at least 100 people there. There were so many.

Helen, who was the same age as Keith before his passing, said his death had been sudden and unexpected. But she paid tribute to the man that she knew and said that there were very few like him.

She stated: He had felt poorly for a couple of nights and had been to the doctors.

He was due to go back the next day but did not make it.

He was just a nice guy. Everything he did he was kind-hearted and caring and he always put everyone before himself.

He was one of those guys women say there are not many of. He was just a doting person.

He would always have a smile on his face and would never have a bad word to say about any person.

The funeral for Keith, who lived in Westwood, was held on Tuesday last week, and as Helen, from Dogsthorpe, said: He was just a genuine guy.

And if Keith had been around he would have undoubtedly been at London Road as Posh slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Swindon.

Helen added: He was very much out with the Posh lads whether it be away or home.
