Picture Editors and photographers gathered Thursday to celebrate the UK Picture Editors Guild Awards in association with Shutterstock.
The prestigious title of The Shutterstock Press Photographer of the Year was awarded to Edinburgh based photographer James Glossop of the Times. Sophie Batterbury, Picture Editor of the Independent said: The overall calibre of entries was exceedingly high this year: in several categories it was very difficult to choose a winning entry. With over 380 entries received; more than 2,000 photographs were considered by the judging panel Chaired by Sophie Batterbury and joined by other established members of the industry including Keren Sachs, Director of Content Development at Shutterstock, Ray Wells, Picture Editor of the Sunday Times, and Fiona Shields, Picture Editor of the Guardian.
The winners were announced at a black tie event hosted by Labour candidate for Mayor of London, the Rt.

Hon. Sadiq Khan and journalist and broadcaster Kate Silverton at the headquarters of the Honourable Artillery Company in City Road, London. The UK Picture Editors Guild lifetime achievement award in Association with British Airways was given to Ken Lennox, former picture editor of the News of the World and The Sun, Ken Lennox, an award winning photographer and picture editor has worked for over fifty years in the newspaper industry.

Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, once described him as her favourite photographer. Time Magazine described his picture of Mrs Thatcher leaving Downing Street with a tear in her eye as one of the best pictures of the 20th century. The newly introduced category The Qatar Airways Newspaper Photographer of the Year was won by Jack Hill of the Times.

Mark Norris of Norris harps puts the final touches to an American Black Walnut Harp, which will be exhibited this weekend at the Edinburgh International Harp Festival, the largest of its kind in Europe.
Mr Norris is a harp-maker of worldwide acclaim. He provided a harp used at Madonna s wedding. One of his harps was used by Anna McLuckie in the TV show The Voice; a youtube video of one of her performances has received millions of views.

His other clients have included the bands Goldfrapp and Florence & The Machine.
