WEST MANHEIM TWP, Pa- A firefighter, who was responding to a house fire in York County on Saturday morning, has died.

Veteran firefighter Earl Shoemaker, 68, was driving a fire truck to the scene, when it’s believed he suffered a medical emergency and died. Shoemaker was a volunteer with the Eagle Fire Company for more than 40-years.

Veteran Firefighter Dies While Responding To House Fire In York ...He was driving the truck to the scene of the house fire on the 500-block of Pumping Station Road in West Manheim Township, when he traveled off the road and crashed, officials said.

Shoemaker’s official cause of death has not yet been released, however it’s believed the medical condition played a significant role.

“Pretty rough right now and we have to meet with all of them and decide to call a debriefing team in,” said Chief Jan Cromer.

West Manheim Township Police are handling the investigation.


The fire happened in a duplex along Pumping Station Road in West Manheim Township, York County.

The cause remains under investigation. A fundraiser for the family that lost everything will be held Sunday at the Hanover Soccer Fields from 1:00 – 3:00pm.

Organizers are asking for donations of all kinds.
