A popular Grade II listed pub in a Norfolk town will be able to improve its range of facilities by creating a function room and outdoor shelters.

The Green Dragon pub in Wymondham has been given planning permission to convert B&B rooms on the first floor back to a function room and erect two shelters in the beer garden, one of which is to cover existing decking, by South Norfolk Council s planning committee on Wednesday. However, concerns were raised by local residents about noise from live music in the garden and the shelter will rise above the existing boundary wall, meaning it will be seen by neighbours. David Ralphs, who lives behind the beer garden, recalled one occasion when the beer garden was still being used after 12.30am and another when a marquee was holding a party at 11.30pm.

But he said he supported the pub.

However, a report by planning officer Jacqui Jackson rejected calls for restrictions in opening hours on the grounds neighbouring residents would not be using their back gardens during the winter months.
