Get into gear for ‘Cycle Breckland’ Swaffham Newsletter News …

Time to get into gear for Cycle Breckland Breckland s first ever family cycling festival! Pedal power will be taking over in Swaffham on Saturday 8 June, with a whole range of family friendly cycling activities on offer as part of the Swaffham Walking and Cycling Festival 2013 .

Lynda Turner, Breckland Council Executive Member for Localism, Community and Environmental Services said: Cycle Breckland will form a major part of the wider Swaffham Festival. It s been a long winter so this will be a great opportunity for families to get out of doors and have fun together.

All Cycle Breckland activities are free and we ve chosen a range of pursuits so there will be something to suit all ages and levels of experience .

Youngsters with ambitions for Rio 2016 can test their skills on Rollerdrome Racing , the closest experience to racing in the Olympic Velodrome. Specially designed strider bikes will give tiny tots the opportunity to get to grips with cycling whilst older children can improve their handling and control on a purpose built Mountain Bike Training Track.

Feeling adventurous? Families who want to strike out on their own can explore the beautiful Breckland countryside and follow a four or nine mile signposted route with support back-up.

There s a great challenge on offer for more experienced cyclists the 100km Iceni Audax Ride.

Organised by the Norfolk and Good cycling events team, the ride starts at 9am and takes in some of the most picturesque Breckland parishes. Those interested in taking part in the ride should arrive before 9am and sign up to register a few days before.

Thirsty after all that hard work? Then hop on the Smoothie Bike and make yourself a delicious fruit drink whilst you pedal!

Bikes and helmets will be provided free of charge for all activities except the four and nine mile family rides and the 100km Audax.

Cycle Breckland will be based at Swaffham Community Centre and is organised and funded by Breckland Council in partnership with Activating CIC and the Iceni Partnership. The event and will run from 10am 4pm.
