Newcastle skipper Fabricio Coloccini was struck in the eye while celebrating his side’s goal in a 1-1 draw on February 11. An object was also thrown from the stands during the FA Cup defeat to Liverpool three days later. And Palace have moved to stop the problem by installing new CCTV cameras and redeploying stewards in potential trouble hot spot areas of the ground.

The club have also written to the FA to inform them of the incidents, and are also working with Police and broadcasters BT Sport to identify the coin-throwing culprits.

We take a zero tolerance approach to this sort of behaviour and, if the perpetrators are identified, they will be banned indefinitely from the stadium

Crystal Palace statement

Palace have vowed to ban any fan found guilty of throwing coins from Selhurst Park. “We take a zero tolerance approach to this sort of behaviour and, if the perpetrators are identified, they will be banned indefinitely from the stadium,” the club said on a statement. “If they are season ticket holders their cards will be made void without a refund.

“The stupid behaviour of a few supporters risks creating a negative image of our club and we would appreciate the help of Palace fans in identifying the culprits, who are not welcome at Selhurst Park.”
