Plans to redevelop North Walsham Police Station are nearly finished.

The scheme would see new modern buildings developed behind the Yarmouth Road building s existing facade. Chiefs say the scheme would save money and create better working conditions for staff.

Proposals will be submitted to the Police and Crime Commissioner for Norfolk next month and, if accepted, will go to public consultation ahead of a planning application to North Norfolk District Council.

The building would continue to be a strategic command station and day-to-day policing would not be affected while works were under way, according to a spokesman.

The move follows the replacement of other north Norfolk police stations including those at Wells in 2008, Cromer in 2009, and the rehousing of the Sheringham Safer Neighbourhood Team into Sheringham Fire Station in 2012.
