Police: Bleeding man found in parking lot likely hit by car

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) Police now believe the a 44-year-old man found bleeding and unconscious in a Norfolk hotel parking lot Friday morning was hit by a car.

Norfolk police spokesman Sam Shenouda said a woman walking through the DoubleTree parking lot at 1500 North Military Highway found the man on the ground around 8 a.m. She called 911 and first responders rushed him to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

The man died the same day. He was later identified as Ralph Hart of Marrero, Louisiana.

Earlier Friday, police were classifying the death as undetermined, pending an autopsy from the Medical Examiner.

Around 5:30 p.m., police told WAVY s Erin Kelly they suspected the man s injuries were caused by being struck by a vehicle.

Police took pictures of a work truck in the hotel parking lot and towed it from the scene Friday. The truck was owned by a company called Drew-Marine, which provides technical solutions and services to the marine industry, according to its website2.

A human resources director from for the company told WAVY News Hart was a relatively new employee out of New Orleans and worked as a fire safety and rescue technician. He said the company did not have many details, but was grieved by the Hart s death.

According to the company, he was staying at the DoubleTree hotel.

No further information has been released.
