Norwich University Applied Research Institutes Names New Board …

Bank president and CEO Thomas S. Leavitt will join the 11-member board, bringing particular expertise to NUARI s financial-sector cyberthreat security work Norwich University Office of Communications April 30, 2015 NORTHFIELD, Vt. Norwich University Applied Research Institutes ( NUARI 1 ) named Northfield Savings Bank President and CEO Thomas S.

Leavitt, of Waterbury Center, to the NUARI board of directors. Leavitt joins 10 directors on the board, bringing 22 years of banking experience, including oversight of all functions and a history of community and board involvement. A Burlington, Vt., native, Leavitt holds a BS in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire s Whittemore School of Business & Economics and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Leavitt will bring significant insight to NUARI s focus on supporting the U.S. financial sector with unique cybersecurity tools. NUARI is at the vanguard of cybersecurity research and information assurance education.

Leading an institution that is part of the nation s financial system, I am acutely aware of the threats that must be vigilantly managed, Leavitt said. It is an honor to join a board comprised of leaders that have served at the highest levels of national defense, industry and academia. NUARI has collaborated with the Department of Homeland Security to help prepare individuals and institutions to respond to catastrophic network failures, natural disasters, distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks and other events that can impact market activity, communications and essential services for critical infrastructure.

To that end, NUARI created DECIDE-FS , a massive, multi-participant simulator that places decision makers, securities traders, IT and other stakeholders into complex, simulated scenarios focused on the effects of cyber incidents as well as other hazards. In 2011, NUARI ran Quantum Dawn I, the largest critical infrastructure cyber threat exercises for the U.S. financial sector.

A follow-up exercise in 2013, Quantum Dawn II, drew 50 organizations and 500 participants in the financial sector. The only cyber threat exercise of its kind, Quantum Dawn III is planned for later this year. NUARI is building upon its leadership in developing its cyber threat war-gaming platform, DECIDE-FS, and is looking forward to Tom s significant service in banking and finance to help NUARI s strategic focus in this area, said Phil Susmann, NUARI president.

Directors serve two-year terms and can serve up to ten years. Norwich University and Northfield Savings Bank have a strong bond that dates to the founding of our bank in 1867 Leavitt said. I look forward to working with Phil Susmann and the NUARI team to support the advancement of a vital 21st century mission.

Police arrest pupil at Hellesdon High School after two boys 'lock …

Police arrest pupil at Hellesdon High School after two boys lock horns 15:10 30 April 2015 Sam Russell 1 Police Officers. Picture: Ian Burt Archant 2012 Teachers at Hellesdon High School called in police after two pupils locked horns , with one boy arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage. Share link shares Headteacher Gerard Batty said that staff acted swiftly to deal with the incident, and were grateful to officers who were called to help.

The incident, described as very rare for the school, happened yesterday. A Norfolk police spokesman said: Officers were called to Hellesdon High School shortly after 1pm on Wednesday to reports of concern for the safety of a pupil at the school. A boy was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre where he was questioned.

He was released on bail until May 2 while enquiries continue. Mr Batty said: What happened probably happens in every school once in a while, and it s very rare here. Two boys locked horns.

Fortunately neither boy was harmed, but we felt that one of the boys didn t calm down in a sufficient way for us to feel he was safe in the school. Teachers rang police, and officers escorted one of the boys from the site. Once all the nonsense on social media has calmed down we re going to use restorative justice to make sure both parties feel able to continue, said Mr Batty.

It was stopped very quickly and we re very grateful for the response of the community police.

We think it has been dealt with very well.

Criminals using Norfolk roads targeted as part of police operation …

Criminals using Norfolk roads targeted as part of police operation 13:05 30 April 2015 Sophie Biddle 1 Archant Norfolk Photographic 2012 Norfolk Police targeted criminals using the roads in Lenwade on April 22 as part of an operation aimed at reducing crime and improving safety in the county. Share link shares Officers from the constabulary s Roads Policing Team worked with members of the Taverham, Drayton and Reepham Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT) to carry out a series of spot checks on vehicles to check for roadworthiness and document offences. Twenty six vehicles were stopped and checked during the initiative, which was held on the A1067 in Lenwade.

Officers issued forms for defects for minor issues with three vehicles and penalised one driver for a seatbelt offence. The operation also aimed to clamp down on scrap metal offences but found that all drivers carrying scrap metal had the relevant paperwork. PC Steve Coe of Taverham SNT said: I m pleased that we were able to carry out a successful operation alongside our colleagues in roads policing.

We want to try to ensure that vehicles using our road network are abiding by the law and are roadworthy, and in doing so help to reduce risk on our local roads. Officers were able to identify a number of vehicles in poor conditions and issue verbal warnings to drivers on a variety of offences. Particularly satisfying was the fact that all of the drivers we stopped were compliant with the tighter new laws around scrap metal, showing that national and local strategies to prevent metal thieves from disposing of stolen goods appear to be working.

Exciting times for Infrastrata with two big wells set to drill in the next …

2015 is a big year for AIM-quoted InfraStrata, which is gearing up to drill two key wells in the next six months, including its maiden exploration well. First up, however, will be a well to recover salt cores on its Islandmagee gas storage project in County Antrim (InfraStrata has a 65 per cent stake). This is a highly strategic project with the potential to make a significant contribution towards security of gas supplies in this part of Europe, a point underscored by InfraStrata s success in securing matching funding from the EC for 50 per cent of the well costs.

The AIM small cap is funded to cover the balance of the well costs following a placing priced at four pence per share that raised 2.1 million in February 2015. All the regulatory approvals have been granted, including the Consent to Drill issued in April 2015, and the well is due to start drilling in May. This well will supply the engineers with the key geological information to help finalise design ahead of final investment decision.

The well is targeting the Permian salt sequence, about 1,400 metres depth, and we re looking to core the entire sequence, explains chief executive Andrew Hindle. The analysis of these cores will help the engineers finalise the design and bring the project to the brink of being shovel ready , bringing to an end seven years of work and a 10 million spend by the AIM small cap. The next step in the process is to monetise our interest in the project, says Hindle, aware that a project of this scale it s estimated to require project funding of 274 million to build the facility will require a company with deeper pockets than 5.9 million market cap Infrastrata.

The other key project for 2015 is the Woodburn Forest prospect in PL 1/10 and P2123 in County Antrim. Again this will be the culmination of four years work. It s taken a number of years to get to this point but this is a very exciting time for us, Hindle tells

Woodburn Forest-1 will be a conventional exploration well, and the Consent to Drill was granted in February but drilling is on hold until September until the close of the bird nesting season. This will be a key well, targeting 40 million boe in conventional Carboniferous, Permian and Triassic sandstone reservoirs. Success would de-risk over 500 million boe of further potential upside within the licence areas.

As a result of farm-out deals with JV partners, including Brigantes Energy, Terrain Energy and US investment vehicle Larne Basin Exploration, InfraStrata expects to have a 27.5 per cent stake and be fully carried through the well. Further ahead, the company has a 68.4 per cent stake in P1918 offshore Dorset in southern England, where the company is keen to drill the California Quarry-1 exploration well from an onshore location, targeting the 10 million boe Purbeck prospect in conventional Jurassic sandstone and limestone reservoirs. There s additional interest here in the Colter prospect, which could host 50 million boe in the Triassic Sherwood Sandstone.

It s likely, however, that giving environmental restrictions over the timing of the acquisition of new 2D seismic data to finalise well design, uncertainty regarding the timing of the award of a petroleum licence over the onshore area and planning lead times that drilling will not take place before the initial term of the licence expires in February 2016, which means there will need to be a licence extension granted by DECC. There s also newly awarded acreage in the North Sea, including 50 per cent of P2222, and an asset swap with Fyrd Energy for a 25 per cent stake in P2235. This is the future, however: the focus for the next six months will be finalising Islandmagee and monetising its historic investment in this strategic project and then the excitement of its first exploration well in Northern Ireland.

Exciting times for the AIM company and its backers, with the shares trading at 3.88 pence per share, up from the lows of 2.8 pence per share seen in March.
