Aaron Weibel went missing from the Norwich area on May 202 and there were concerns growing for his safety and welfare. And despite regular police appeals, there was no sign of the 35-year-old after eight days of searching.

But on May 29, vigilant members of Thetford Police cadets found Mr Weibel and made sure he was safe. He was found asleep by cadets to the rear of St Cuthbert s Church. Cadets spoke to him along with an officer and made enquiries to confirm his identity, before arrangements were made for him to be returned home.

The cadets also gave him a sandwich and water before he left. Chief Inspector Paul Wheatley, Breckland District Commander said the cadet scheme has been running for almost two years, and is going from strength to strength . I am extremely proud of the Thetford Police cadets and their involvement in community projects.

During the summer we will be patrolling areas including the town centre, the Priory and local housing estates, to help reduce anti-social behaviour. The cadet scheme was initially piloted in Thetford with an initial intake of 12 cadets, which has now grown to 18. Due to its success the scheme has now been rolled out across the force with almost 60 cadets across the county including Kings Lynn and Gt Yarmouth, and Norwich to join soon.
