Only one-way, southbound traffic allowed on Eiwa Street effective Friday

L HU E Starting Friday, Aug.

7, Eiwa Street will become a one-way street for southbound traffic with motorists being able to turn right at the Rice Street junction. Another modification to traffic flow in the area is the closing of the L hu e Civic Center driveway next to the Kaua i Museum and the opening of a new driveway approximately 50 feet away from the old one.

The change will facilitate vehicles crossing Eiwa Street from the new driveway to the roadway fronting the Historic County Building and then on to Umi Street.

L HU E The Solid Waste Division will begin delivery of 64-gallon refuse carts next month to existing customers who elected to exchange their 96-gallon carts for the smaller size. Due to the large volume, the exchange process will start in July and take approximately three months to complete.

Update on Kapa a swimming pool, classes

KAPA A After several days of testing, it has been determined that the pump and motor at the Kapa a swimming pool have to be replaced.

Officials are in the process of ordering replacements, and it is expected take approximately eight weeks before the Kapa a pool can be operational again. In the meantime, arrangements have been made with the state Department of Education to hold the swim classes at the Kaua i High School swimming pool that were previously scheduled at the Kapa a pool.

L HU E The operating hours at the refuse transfer stations will change at the end of the month. Effective June 28, the transfer stations will be open from 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

County announces holiday closures

L HU E In observance of King Kamehameha Day, County of Kaua i offices will be closed on Thursday, June 11 along with all refuse transfer stations, the Kekaha Landfill and Kaua i Resource Center.

In addition, the Kapa a and Waimea swimming pools as well as all of the neighborhood centers will be closed on the holiday.

The Kaua i Bus will be operating on a modified schedule on King Kamehameha Day.
