Norwich police arrest woman on cocaine, assault charges after they say she took a swing at officer

NORWICH Police arrested a woman Friday morning on assault, narcotics and motor vehicle charges after they said she tried to hit an officer while being arrested.

Police said they pulled over a vehicle with two people in it on Terrace Avenue around 2 a.m. Friday.

There was a man and a woman in car and the man ran from the vehicle and the woman moved into the driver s seat, according to police.

Police found cocaine they believe was packaged for sale. When the went to arrest the woman, she started to struggle.

Police said she took a swing at an officer, and struck an officer in the face.

Sarah Lassiter, 27, of Groton, was charged with operating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, operating with a suspended license, interfering with an officer, assault on an officer and possession of narcotics with intent to distribute.

She was held on $10,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

Police said Lassiter has a number of arrests on motor vehicle and assault charges.

Police have identified the man who ran from the car and a warrant is being prepared for his arrest.
