Hit-and-run appeal after man's body is found on A47 near Norwich …

Police are appealing for witnesses after the body of a man was found on the side of the A47 carriageway near Norwich this morning.

The man is believed to be in his 40s and from the Norwich area.

His next of kin are being informed.

Police said it appears to be a fail to stop collision .

The body of the man was discovered on the side of the carriageway about half a mile past the B1108 eastbound on the A47

Officers are still trying to piece together what happened.

The A47 eastbound carriageways will remain closed between the B1108 and the Thickthorn roundabout while police enquiries continue.

Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact the SCIT on 101.

The incident has caused major disruption to commuters, with up to an hour s delay on adjoining roads and around the city.

Highways England said the A47, between its junctions with the A1074 and A11, is expected to be clear by 3.30pm.

It said a local diversion was in place and described the incident as serious .

Traffic is queued back to Easton and police are directing motorists on to Earlham Road.

Queues are believed to be stretching as far back as Tuddenham, while there are similar delays caused by congestion on Dereham Road and Watton Road.

There are long delays between Longwater and the B1108 junction, and reports suggest parts of the city are virtually gridlocked.

The incident has caused delays to konectbus services.

Service numbers 4, 8, 53, 510, and 511 are all affected and experiencing delays.

A fire crew from Earlham was called to the scene at around 6.20am to screen off the carriageway.
