Duchess Kate: Kate in Eponine London for XLP Mentoring …

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the mentoring programme of the XLP 1 (eXcel Project) at London Wall this afternoon. In March last year the Duke and Duchess visited the XLP project at Gipsy Hall 2 and, clearly impressed by what they learned about the charity, decided they wanted to see another side of its work supporting vulnerable young people. XLP works to create positive futures for young people from inner London boroughs and has been operating its XL-Mentoring programme since 2008.

The programme is focused on at-risk young people who are facing exclusion from school, risk involvement in gangs and other anti-social behaviour. The young people taking part are referred to the project by their schools, pupil referral units, youth services and the police. They are then matched with a mentor who commits to providing two hours face-to-face time each week for a minimum of twelve months.

Mentors are drawn from the local community. They receive training and supervision from an experienced full-time co-ordinator, who manages up to twenty-five active relationships by supporting the mentors, mentees and families through the process. The results of the programme speak for themselves: over ninety per cent of beneficiaries have either remained in school or returned to school and are doing well after twelve months with a mentor.

The charity’s website shares a number of stories 3 from young people who have benefited from availing of the programme and having a mentor in their lives. Kate chatting with XLP founder Patrick Regan OBE. William and Kate met mentors and mentees who discussed their experiences of the programme and how it has helped them.

Mentoring coordinators from around the country who have completed their training shared their reasons for wanting to help and how rewarding it has been for them thus far. Among the topics discussed at the event were prison, homelessness, gun and knife crime. The goal is to expand the project within London and to share expertise by operating a free training programme.

Over a hundred organisations have already taken part in the two-day course for co-ordinators who are trained to run programmes and to train, in turn, their own mentors. More from the Daily Express: 4 The Duke of Cambridge put his hand up and grinned when a charity official asked if anyone in an audience of young people and youth mentors had heard of the show, which features a team restoring and customising old cars. He and Kate heard how a former police riot van turned into a recording studio by the youth charity XLP had starred on the show in 2008.

The royal couple saw it last year on a visit to the charity in Gypsy Hill, south London. When charity workers offered him and Kate a couple of gifts, a picture and a record made by an inspirational young woman who had overcome clinical depression and an eating disorder , William joked: “Do we get the van? I want the van.” A lovely shot of the couple.

Kate debuted a new label today – Kensington-based bespoke firm Eponine London 5 . Kate’s red and white skirt suit is from the Spring/Summer 2016 Collection 6 . The top features a boat neck and three-quarter sleeves while the skirt is A-line It’s a beautiful outfit and I love the silhouette, the lines, and the gingham pattern.

Eponine shared news the suit retails for 1200. It’s very much a fresh Spring look reminiscent of Jackie O. and perfect for a day time engagement.

The womenswear brand is inspired by the elegant lines of the fifties and sixties. Founded by designer Jet Shenkman, Eponine was born from her passion for clothes with a unique, relaxed silhouette. Jet s years of styling experience have equipped her with an expert eye for precision and an innate understanding of the female form.

Every garment is designed and made in London for women who seek out individuality and who desire to be both chic and contemporary. Below, three retro styles from the current collection. There’s a lovely article in The Telegraph 7 about the owner of the brand.

Oh my goodness, it s unbelievably nice, Shenkman told The Telegraph of how it feels to have Duchess championing her label. The mother-of-four – whose design studio is in her Kensington home – said it remains a mystery how Kate discovered her. But within hours of pictures of the Duchess emerging wearing Eponine, her small firm was inundated with emails and sales enquiries.

I have never experienced anything like this! she added. A mother of four, Shenkman s studio is in her family home – giving an air of intimacy she thinks her clients like.

It can be a distraction from time to time, but I really enjoy it and am incredibly lucky to have a very supportive family who don’t mind loads of women traipsing through the house, she says of her children, who helped choose the name of her business after their favourite character in Les Miserables.’ The Duchess wore her black suede Gianvito Rossi pumps 8 . Described as “sophisticated and elegant” they retail for $670 at My Theresa 9 . Kate accessorised with her elegant Kiki McDonough Morganite and Cushion Drop earrings 10 .

Kate carried her Muse clutch again today. You can watch a video from the engagement at ITN Source 11 .There’s a cute moment when Patrick Regan is giving a talk and compliments Kate, “you look absolutely wonderful this afternoon”. Check out William’s and Rebecca’s smiles when he says it. 🙂 Also today, Kensington Palace announced Kate will open the new East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices charity shop in Holt, Norfolk next Friday, 18 March.

The new shop will form part of EACH’s portfolio of 21 charity retail outlets, and will play an important role in raising funds for the organisation, which largely relies on voluntary donations. The Duchess, who has been Patron of EACH since 2012, will be taken on a tour of the shop and will meet staff. The shop is located quite close to Anmer Hall.

The Palace also announced unexpectedly, Prince William will be attending the St. Patrick’s Day parade and present sprigs of shamrock solo on 17 March. This is very surprising news as it has become something of a tradition for Kate to attend each year, and has been a longstanding tradition for a female member of the British Royal Family to do so.

It is not known why Kate is not attending, however Richard Palmer tweeted “It was suggested to me that they wanted to get away from the expectation she’d do it every year.”.

We’ll see you on Monday for the Commonwealth service.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend 🙂 References ^ XLP ( ^ visited the XLP project at Gipsy Hall ( ^ shares a number of stories ( ^ Daily Express: ( ^ Eponine London ( ^ Spring/Summer 2016 Collection ( ^ The Telegraph ( ^ Gianvito Rossi pumps ( ^ at My Theresa ( ^ Kiki McDonough Morganite and Cushion Drop earrings ( ^ at ITN Source (

Man Sets Himself On Fire Near Prince William & Kate's Home At …

A man set himself fire near Prine William and Kate’s estate in London. According to Yahoo 1 , a man in his forties set himself ablaze near Kensington Palace on Monday. Soon after first responders arrived at the scene on Monday, the disturbed individual was pronounced dead.

According to the report, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge weren’t at home at the time of incident. William and Kate and their children — Prince George, 2-and-a-half, and Princess Charlotte, 9-months spend most of their time at Anmer Hall, which is on Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk in east England. It’s unknown why the man set himself on fire near Prince William and Kate’s residence.

A London hospital reported a man the same age missing, but they didn’t confirm whether that patient was the same man who died from his injuries. “This incident is not being treated as terrorist-related,” the police said in a statement. Police were called to an area near the locked sections of Kensington Palace at 3:06 a.m. Police said this was “following reports of a man behaving suspiciously.

No one in the royal family was harmed and it’s unknown if any royal family members were home at the time of the violent incident. William and Kate were just in the news for enjoying date night at The Crown Inn in East Rudham, about 15 minutes from their Anmer Hall residence. Daily Mail 2 reported that the future king and queen of England enjoyed some quality time together there recently.

Duchess Kate: Kate and William to Return to Anglesey, Date Night …

Good evening, dear readers, we’re back with a brief post sharing varied updates! The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will return to their former home Anglesey, North Wales on Thursday, 18 February to attend the Search and Rescue Force Disbandment Parade at RAF Valley – where Prince William served as an operational search and rescue pilot flying the Sea King helicopter for three years. According to Kensington Palace “His Royal Highness undertook a total of 156 search and rescue operations, resulting in 149 people being rescued”.

More from the press release: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit Royal Air Force Valley on Thursday 18 February to attend the Search and Rescue (SAR) Force Disbandment Parade, honouring the end of more than 75 years of Royal Air Force (RAF) SAR UK operations. The day formally marks the end of the RAF’s provision of search and rescue in the UK. The events will commemorate the RAF SAR Force’s exemplary service since its inception, and enable SAR members and their families to pay tribute to the Force’s achievements.” William will have a chance to meet his former colleagues as they mark the end of an era.

For over three decades the RAF SAR Force responded to more than 34,000 callouts and rescued over 25,000 people. It’s wonderful to see William and Kate returning to Anglesey, as it was their first home together and I would say, without question, a place they were incredibly happy in. The people there were very protective of them and afforded them a level of privacy and normality which would be impossible in London.

In many ways, I think they’ve tried to recreate their life there by basing themselves in Anmer Hall in Norfolk instead of choosing to live at their apartment in Kensington Palace and William’s decision to return to flying in favour of stepping up royal duties. Readers will recall William and Kate carried out an engagement to bid farewell to Anglesey 1 back in 2013 shortly after Prince George was born. Speaking of William and Kate’s life in Norfolk, the couple were spotted enjoying a relaxing meal at the The Crown Inn 2 , in East Rudham, located just fifteen minutes from Anmer Hall.

It isn’t the first time the couple have dined there – Prince William has been spotted grabbing a spot of lunch several times too. A source told The Sun 3 they were very casually dressed with Kate wearing jeans and a navy jumper for the outing. More from the regular who spotted them: “They were very low key and it seemed quite a last minute thing.

Maybe it was a rare night out since Charlotte was born. They were both dressed down with Kate in skinny jeans and a navy jumper and just wanted a quiet table out of the way. After a quick drink at the bar, they were shown to their table.

William, 33, who was off-shift for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, had a glass of wine while Kate appeared to opt for sparkling water. They were leaning into one another chatting away, laughing and joking. It s nice for them to have a normal night out like any other parents of young children.” The Crown Inn is described as an “outstanding Norfolk country pub/restaurant” and combines traditional period features with stunning modern-day comfort and luxury hotel accommodation.

All food is prepared to order using the freshest ingredients sourced locally from farmers, fisherman and traders. This allows for variety and constant change in the menu. Below, a look at a sample of several main courses on offer at the inn including wild mushroom risotto and beer battered fish and chips.

William and Kate reportedly stayed until 10.30 pm and enjoyed a drink after their meal. The Crown Inn is known for their selection of ales in particular. It sounds like William and Kate had a lovely evening!

Next it’s time for a little ‘Tuesday Shoesday’ segment, taking a quick look at Gianvito Rossi 4 , the luxury Italian brand the Duchess has become fond of in recent months, leading many to ask, has Kate hung up her L.K. Bennett Sledges 5 for good? I think we’ll continue to see Kate wearing her tried and trusted labels, however, she’s expanding her taste in terms of what she wears for public engagements.

Let’s discuss the background of the brand first.. One could say designing elegant footwear was very much in Gianvito Rossi’s blood, as his father, Sergio Rossi, the decorated Italian shoe designer, achieved global success and Gianvito worked alongside him until 2006 when he branched out on his own. Since then he has become a major player in the industry with flagship stores dotted around the globe in Hong Kong, Milan and Paris.

Rossi’s shoes are designed to lengthen legs and minimise foot pain without sacrificing style or glamour – and this is a key selling point among customers. Below we see the brand’s signature 100 Pumps 6 – which Kate is fond of – in patent leather 7 and blue suede 8 . The brand’s block-heeled suede pumps 9 are a practical pair I can envisage Kate wearing for comfort (though, perhaps not the prettiest pair in the collection).

For an evening look, the Elodie Pumps 10 are an eye-catching pair. “Crafted of Flamingo (dark pink) macram lace layered over beige mesh, Gianvito Rossi’s Elodie pumps are styled with a suede pointed toe and slim stiletto heel.” The Embellished Ankle-Strap Sandals 11 are a fabulous pair of open toes with a slim ankle strap and killer heel. The Python Roma Pumps 12 make a stylish statement with a four-inch, self-covered stiletto heel, smooth leather lining and leather sole. The very pretty Bow-Front Pumps 13 are crafted of denim suede.

The Crystal-Embellished Pumps 14 and the Glitter & Satin Pumps 15 have a very princessy look to them. We could go on and on… Finally a look at these beauties 16 : “Gianvito Rossi’s point-toe pumps have been hand-finished in Italy from velvety soft suede.

This timeless pair is lightly cushioned for lasting comfort and detailed with delicate crossover straps.” Marc Jacobs’ latest line of lipsticks 17 includes a shade named after Princess Charlotte. Catherine Gore, global vice president and general manager of Marc Jacobs beauty, told WWD: “We wanted to commemorate this major brand milestone by creating a custom shade of Le Marc lip cr me.” She added the shade was “inspired by the deepest saturated pink tones of an English rose”. The deep pink colour is exclusively available at Harrods 18 for 24.

We’ll be looking at potential royal tour designers next. 🙂 References ^ William and Kate carried out an engagement to bid farewell to Anglesey ( ^ The Crown Inn ( ^ The Sun ( ^ Gianvito Rossi ( ^ L.K.

Duchess Kate: Every Child Deserves to be Supported Through …

The Duchess of Cambridge recorded a video message in support of Children’s Mental Health Week in her role as patron of Place2Be 1 . The video is available to view below or on YouTube. 2 In the video Kate says she and William want all children to get the support they need during difficult times to help them overcome challenges. The Duchess believes schools need to prioritize the mental wellbeing of their students in addition to academic success to allow every child to have a “firm foundation, for the happy, healthy future they deserve”.

The Duchess continued: “While we cannot always change a child’s circumstances, we can give them tools to cope and thrive.” The highlight of the video for me was seeing Kate interact with a group of children from Salusbury Primary school in Queen’s Park, London, who have benefited from Place2Be programmes. The Duchess asks the children: “Do you all talk to your friends about your feelings too? Sometimes there’re things you probably don’t feel like sharing with your friends but at least you’ve got an adult you can trust.” A little boy asked Kate if she would have liked a Place2Be at school: “I would love to have had it.

I think everyone would really benefit from having something like a Place2Be and being able to talk.” It is the third video message Kate has recorded since joining the Royal family. The first was released 3 during Children’s Hospice Week in support of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices in 2013 and the second was also for Place2Be 4 and released last year. More from The Mirror’s story: 5 ‘In the message released today, produced by BAFTA s in-house production team, Kate says: “Every child deserves to grow up feeling confident that they won’t fall at the first hurdle, that they cope with life’s setbacks.

This resilience – our ability to deal with stressful situations – is something we begin to learn in childhood, as we respond to each challenge and problem life presents. Many of us are incredibly fortunate that the issues we face in childhood are ones we can cope with and learn from. But for some children, learning to cope with life’s challenges can be a struggle,” she continues.

While we cannot always change a child’s circumstances, we can give them the tools to cope, and to thrive. With early support they can learn to manage their emotions and feelings and know when to seek help. She adds: “Through my work in areas like addiction, I have seen time and again that the roots of poor mental health in adulthood frequently stem from unresolved childhood issues.

This needs to change.” Kate also highlights the vital role of schools in providing emotional support, saying: “Schools are uniquely placed to provide emotional support, working with children and their families – this is something that Place2Be understands.’ Catherine Roche, Chief Executive of Place2Be said “We are hugely grateful to The Duchess for helping to remove the stigma around children s mental health and for shining a spotlight on the value of supporting children in school from an early age. More from Kensington Palace: Children’s Mental Health Week runs from 8-14 February this year and is focusing on the theme of “building resilience” and teaching children to bounce forward from life’s challenges. Place2Be continues: “While we cannot always change children’s circumstances, we can teach them the skills to cope with the difficulties life throws at them.

Join us this week in helping children grow up with prospects not problems.” The statistics provide a wealth of evidence pointing to a significant need for early mental health support: One in ten children aged between 5 and 16 years (three in every classroom) has a mental health problem, and many continue to have these problems into adulthood. Half of those with lifetime mental health problems first experience symptoms by the age of 14. Among teenagers, rates of depression and anxiety have increased by 70% in the past 25 years.

One in five children have symptoms of depression and almost a third of 16 to 25-year-olds surveyed had thought about or attempted suicide. Ten years ago, detailed estimates put the cost of mental health problems in England at 77 billion, including lost productivity and the wider impacts on wellbeing. More recent estimates suggest the costs may be closer to 105 billion.

Children are less likely to suffer from serious mental health difficulties in later life if they receive support at an early age, providing a cost saving to adult mental health services. Growing evidence indicates that promoting positive mental health also improves a range of positive school outcomes, including enhanced academic progress, better attendance and lower exclusion rates. Kate became royal patron of Place2Be in April 2013 and since then has developed an increasing interest in young people’s mental health and early intervention.

I expect this is at least partly related to her involvement with the organisation through a number of engagements in which she has had the opportunity to meet those providing support and those benefiting from it. In November, the Duchess attended the Place2Be headteacher conference where she gave a speech emphasising the need for early intervention: “Imagine if everyone was able to help just one child who needs to be listened to, needs to be respected, and needs to be loved we could make such a huge difference for an entire generation.” The focus on mental health will continue on 17 February when Kate welcomes a team from The Huffington Post to help raise awareness and launch a new initiative – Young Minds Matter. If you’re interested in supporting Children’s Mental Health Week you can make a single donation or become a regular donor by clicking here 6 .

7 could pay for a lunchtime drop in service while 95 could provide Place2Be’s whole school services to a child for a year. For those in the UK it’s worth noting Place2Be are seeking volunteers for a range of roles including volunteer counsellors and administrative support. For those considering it, I volunteer whenever time permits with a fantastic organisation and have found it thoroughly rewarding and enriching.

Seeing the level of dedication and commitment that simply goes into keeping the lights on through fundraising efforts and initiatives to provide the best service possible has been a real eye-opener concerning the struggles charities face. It’s also been very inspiring and heartening to see first-hand the difference volunteering can make. It’s a great way to give back to your community and hopefully helps make a difference.

I thought the video message was really very good; both interesting and engaging. It was also very professionally done and Kate appeared very confident, assured and very much at ease when talking to the children. I think it will be immensely helpful in terms of raising awareness for Children’s Mental Health Week.

Readers will recognise Kate’s Rebecca Taylor 7 suit in the video. Kate first wore the jacket and skirt in April 2012 for the Scott-Amundsen Centenary Race to the South Pole and more recently in New Zealand in 2014. The suit is from the designer’s Pre-Fall 2012/2013 Collection.

Both pieces are crafted in heavily textured melange weft. The jacket features frayed trim and sequin floral embellishment at the neck. Kate accessorised with her sapphire and diamond earrings.

If you’re just joining us today, a reminder the Duchess carried out her first engagement of the year with a service and reception for the RAF Air Cadets. Click here 8 to view the post! After the engagement, Kate was seen by several onlookers boarding a helicopter from Kensington Palace to Anmer Hall.

Ashley quickly identified Kate’s coat as the Mulberry Paddington Coat 9 . The 990 coat is described as “”Mulberry’s ‘Paddington’ coat is designed in a fresh sky-blue hue for fall. Classically tailored, this slightly loose style has been cut in Italy from a luxurious wool-blend with a tactile touch of mohair.” The coat is from the A/W 2015 Collection and sold out.

Kate appears to be carrying her Tusting Explorer Bag 10 .
