The Mikado Livewire Opera Company Forthcoming …

Caitlin Woolrich (Yum-Yum), and Amelia Joycelyn (Peep-Bo), admire the costume worn by Imogen Dixon (Pitti-Sing), when she appeared in the Mikado aged three. www.livewireoperacompany.co.uk 1 IMOGEN DOES IT AGAIN! When Livewire Opera Company were searching to cast the part of Pitti-Sing in their latest production of Gilbert & Sullivan s The Mikado , they found that they already had the ideal person in their midst.

Fifteen year old, Imogen Dixon has featured in many of the company s previous shows including the part of Louisa Von Trapp, in their 2013 production of The Sound of Music . This is the second time Livewire have performed The Mikado , the first time Imogen played the part of a flower girl, aged just three years old. This time, she will be following in the footsteps of her Mother, Rosie who performed as Pitti-Sing back in 2003.

The Three Little Maids in Livewire Opera Companies summer production of The Mikado, L to R: Imogen Dixon (Pitti-Sing), Caitlin Woolrich (Yum Yum), and Amelia Joycelyn (Peep Bo). Imogen will be in good company as she is joined by Caitlin Woolrich and Amelia Joycelyn in the roles of Yum-Yum and Peep-Bo, while Rob Wilkinson takes the part of Nanki-Poo. Musical Director Susan Booth is delighted to have such a young and talented cast in these principal roles.

Notes: Livewire Opera Company is a friendly group of all ages dedicated to performing local shows and concerts. It was formed in February 2001 by a group of six friends, under the musical directorship of Susan Booth.

In its first year, the Group entered the Norfolk County Music Festival gaining Highly Commended in all its classes culminating in the group being presented with the NAAM Plate for the most promising adult performance in the festival at the end of festival concert. Livewire have always felt that there is a need locally for a group to take music and shows to the people in a local venue rather than expecting them to travel some distance to see us. The productions and concerts are as professional as it is possible for an amateur group to make them.

It is our belief that operetta such as Savoy Opera are an important part of musical heritage and performance history of this country. Traditionally styled operetta has an important place in the musical education of the young people in our company and also those who come to see our shows. Hence, the preservation of a slice of life that would otherwise be lost.

This approach means that we can walk a comfortable path between classical music and education at the same time. We will hopefully reach audiences that would otherwise have their eyes closed to this medium, and engender their curiosity in this art form. Contact Deborah Gothard (company business manager) for further information.

VFL Finals Week Two » Bound for Glory News

Credit: Essendon VFL VFL Finals Week Two Week two of VFL finals action saw the Essendon Bombers bundle the reigning premier, Footscray, out in straight sets and Sandringham overcome an early deficit to overrun the Magpies by just seven points. Essendon Bombers 19.9 (123) d Footscray Bulldogs 8.9 (57) Essendon continued its successful finals run over the weekend with a 66-point win over reigning premiers Footscray. Kicking with the breeze in the first quarter Essendon secured a seven point lead but cemented their win by kicking eight of the next nine goals.

Essendon were never challenged after half-time and used the game to capitalize on their lead. Aaron Heppell was a solid in defence with Anthony Tipungwuti with the duo impacting on a number of contests across halfback. Heppell had waited all year for the opportunity and used the last four weeks to cement his spot in the team.

Kyle Hardingham and Shaun McKernan used their AFL experience to help the Bombers to their first preliminary final since 2005 when aligned with Bendigo. Essendon VFL coach, Hayden Skipworth, said The boys stuck to the game plan all day, we were discipline for the whole four quarters and they got the result that they deserved. Footscray coach, Ashley Hansen said that Footscray didn t have enough winners on the ground in their positions.

Finals football is a collective effort. Individuals don t win finals, teams do and we didn t have enough winners that combined to be a strong team. The win for Essendon sets up a preliminary final clash with Williamstown on Sunday September 20 at 2:40pm at North Port Oval.

Leading goal kickers: Essendon: S. McKernan 3, A. Browne 3, K.

Austin Sandringham 15.14 (104) d Collingwod 14.13 (97) Sandringham overcame an early deficit to progress through to a preliminary final against minor premiers Box Hill Hawks. Both teams missed a handful of early shots on goal before Collingwood were able to capitalize in the second quarter and take some control of the match and enter half time with a three-goal lead. Sandringham was able to draw level at three-quarter time before eventually hitting the front through Trent Dennis-Lane s fifth goal at the 17-minute mark of the final term.

Mitch Brown was pivotal up forward for the Zebras with three second-half goals and taking nine marks, while Clint Jones amassed 44 disposals and a goal. Dylan Weickhardt worked hard to finish with 22 disposals and seven tackles. For the Magpies, Matt Scharenberg provided a defensive rebound while Jack Hellier and Brent Macaffer (two goals) were important through the middle.

Collingwood VFL coach Dale Tapping said the win was a courageous performance after losing Jonathan Marsh in the second quarter to a suspected hamstring injury. Mitch Brown got hold of us a little bit with his aerial stuff (Marsh) has been playing on those guys at AFL level and has been doing it pretty well. That hurt us a bit.

We ve continued to make really good inroads into what we want to do at a VFL level. Today is disappointing of course but we ll reflect and I m sure it ll be looked upon as a reasonably positive year. Sandringham will now face Box Hill on Saturday September 19 at North Port Oval at 2:40pm.
