Arsenal vs Sunderland team news: Oxlade-Chamberlain and …

Arsene Wenger willing to shoulder the blame for mounting Arsenal …

Arsene Wenger is willing to shoulder the blame for Arsenal’s current injury crisis – but also pointed to an incident at Norwich that could have led to Alexis Sanchez’s hamstring problem. The Gunners lost Sanchez, Laurent Koscielny and Santi Cazorla during Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Carrow Road, with Kieran Gibbs ruled out in the run-up to the game. Cazorla is by far the worst of those fresh injury worries and Wenger conceded the Spain international could be out until March with knee trouble.

Questions had been asked in advance of the trip to Norfolk about the amount of football Sanchez had played without a break, with Wenger revealing that the Chile forward had felt his hamstring during the 3-0 Champions League victory over Dinamo Zagreb. But Sanchez was deployed at Norwich only to pull up injured in the second-half and he will now miss the start of a busy festive period. Wenger has a host of other first-team regulars on the treatment table, although Koscielny should be fit for Saturday’s clash with Sunderland while Theo Walcott could return from a calf injury, and said he will take the blame for the number of players out. “I’m not expert enough to know but if you want to blame me I’m okay with it,” he said. “We have tests as well, we have medical tests.

We are quite sophisticated in testing our players. I had a chat with Alexis after his injury and he was adamant he felt perfect before the game because we tested his strength, stretching, all the signs we have we test every week were perfect. “There was no obvious sign or alert before the game – it happened, do I have to take the blame? I do, but there was not an obvious mistake to select him before the game.” Sanchez had laid on Mesut Ozil’s opening goal at Norwich before he was pushed into a camera pit by Canaries defender Ryan Bennett as both left the pitch chasing the ball.

And Wenger feels not enough was made of the incident as Sanchez had to be helped out of the area following the incident. “Alexis had four weeks holiday, he was rested in some games and had all the medical signs to say he was okay to play between Dinamo Zagreb and Norwich,” he said. “But nobody suggested that he could displace his back or his hamstring. When he was pushed into the boards on the side of the field that did not shock anybody. That injury can come from that as well.” “I never force anyone to play.

We are in a job where you need to give 100 per cent and to give 100 per cent you must feel absolutely confident and have confidence in your body. I don’t like to push players who are reluctant to play games. “If you ask me when you play a cup final, you don’t listen too much to the players because they are all fit. But in normal situations, sometimes you have to get the feeling from the player because at the end of the day you have to trust them.” Cazorla suffered knee ligament damage after a collision with Gary O’Neil early in the second half but continued on until the end – with Wenger admitting afterwards the midfielder was “playing on one leg”. “It is possible, yes,” he replied on Friday when asked whether reports suggesting Cazorla could be out until March were accurate. “Alexis is a hamstring but I don’t know how long it will take, it is usually a quick one to recover while Cazorla we don’t know until he sees a specialist.

There is no news on that.”

Arsenal vs Sunderland preview: Tickets, team news, line ups and odds

Amid the talk of crisis and doomed title campaigns hovering around the Emirates it is at times hard to remember that Arsenal 1 are just two points of the top of the Premier League. That gap may increase to five by the time they take on Sunderland on Saturday but, perhaps more due to the failings of their rivals than many great performances from Arsene Wenger s men, Arsenal remain in the title race for now. If they want that to last they will need to dramatically improve on their form over November, when they picked up a meagre two points from their three league matches.

The last two games, a loss to West Bromwich Albion and draw against Norwich, came at a significant cost to the squad. Francis Coquelin, Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla are all set to be missing for the foreseeable future, forcing Wenger to once more dip deep into his squad. Injured stars Laurent Koscielny and Theo Walcott may return to the squad, whilst Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be in line for a start.

Norwich vs Arsenal – player ratings Sam Allardyce has given Wenger plenty of problems with his previous sides, but will he be able to continue Arsenal s in the Premier League? Scroll down for everything you need to know ahead of the clash. Date, time and venue The Emirates will host the clash between Arsenal and Sunderland, with kick-off due at 3pm on Saturday 5 December.

Where to watch There will be no live television coverage of the match in the UK, but you can follow the action as it happens on Standard Sport. Highlights will be available on Match of the Day from 10:25pm. Tickets All home tickets for the match are sold out.

Form and recent encounters Arsenal endured one of their regular November slumps in recent weeks, claiming just two league points during the month as they lost ground on their title rivals. Though the away trip to Norwich was far from Arsenal s worst performance during the month, indeed in the first half hour they played encouraging football, but it was the nadir of a brutal few weeks, with Koscielny, Sanchez and Cazorla all picking up injuries. Sunderland, by contrast, have dramatically turned around what seemed a doomed campaign over the past few weeks.

Back-to-back victories away to Crystal Palace and at home to Stoke have seen them clamber out of the relegation zone, with young forward Duncan Watmore making a big impression. Wenger has not lost in the league since 2009, though a template for victory may have been set the last time these two sides met at the Emirates when it was Dick Advocaat masterminding the Black Cats latest great escape. On that occasion Sunderland comfortably held out for a 0-0 draw and may well look to do the same on Saturday, hoping to knick a solitary goal at the other end.

Team news At least seven first team players will be absent for Arsenal on Saturday, with Sanchez and Cazorla likely to be out for some time yet. Kieran Gibbs is expected to return on the bench whilst Wenger retains hope that Koscielny and Walcott will also be in contention. The mounting number of absentees in midfield leaves Wenger questioning whether to drop Aaron Ramsey back into the centre of the park, having deployed him out on the right for much of the year.

Should he play alongside Mathieu Flamini Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could take Ramsey s spot in the attacking midfield trio. Allardyce is without two key players for the visit to the Emirates, with both Jermain Defoe and Sebastian Larsson ruled out. Jack Rodwell is also not expected to be available.

Possible lineups What they re saying Wenger: We have gone through a little bit of a bad spell in recent games, but we are two points off the top. The great opportunity for us is that, despite that bad spell, we are very close. That s why it s important that we keep our confidence high and our determination high, and start winning again.

We want the crowd to be behind the team and help us to do it. Allardyce: Anything can happen on any day in the Premier League, so let’s hope it’s our day. Let’s hope we get a little bit of good fortune, let’s hope we play very, very well and if we can do all that, we might get a result.

Match odds (Bet Victor) Arsenal are odds-on favourites at a price of 2/7 whilst visitors Sunderland are a massive 12/1.

The draw is 19/4.

Norwich City vs Arsenal preview: Tickets, team news, line ups and …

Arsenal 1 will look to get back on track in the Premier League on Sunday, travelling to Carrow Road on Sunday as they look to close the gap on the leaders. Last week s defeat to West Brom may not be critical to their title challenge but it represented a disappointing start to a winnable run of fixtures for Arsene Wenger s side. He will expect to claim a first league win in November at the third time of asking.

Wenger will likely be able to call on Aaron Ramsey from the start with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returning into the squad after a month-long absence. There remains a significant hole at the heart of the Arsenal midfield, whether Mathieu Flamini or Calum Chambers will be the solution is yet to be seen. The Frenchman got the nod in the Champions League match against Dinamo Zagreb, but he did not impress.

Arsenal vs Dinamo Zagreb player ratings The Gunners need to find a winning formula, and fast. With the potentially decisive visit of Manchester City less than a month away Wenger will want to be well-placed to enter the game with confidence. That starts with a win against Norwich, but it won t be easy.

What do Arsenal fans need to know ahead of Sunday s game? Scroll through our preview below to find out. Date, time and venue Norwich welcome Arsenal to Carrow Road for a 4:15pm kick off on Sunday 29 November.

Where to watch Sky Sports will show live coverage of the match from 4pm as part of their Super Sunday programme. You can follow all of the build-up to kick-off on Standard Sport s dedicated live blog. Tickets All away tickets for the match are now sold out.

Form and recent encounters After a solid September in which Norwich went unbeaten recent months have been far tougher for Alex Neil s men, who have struggled with the fallout on their 6-2 humbling at the hands of Newcastle in mid-October. Since then only a win against Swansea has added to their points tally as they have slipped towards the relegation zone. Though there were positives to be drawn from a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea the Canaries now find themselves looking over their shoulder, sitting just three points above the relegation zone.

Arsenal picked up their first win of the month at the Emirates on Tuesday, comfortably overcoming a limited Dinamo Zagreb side thanks to sterling efforts from Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. It followed a disappointing run of form for Wenger s men, whose loss to West Brom saw them blow a great opportunity to move to the top of the table, losing Francis Coquelin and Mikel Arteta in the process. Arsenal s last visit to Norwich in May of last year saw them come away with a comfortable 2-0 victory, Aaron Ramsey and Carl Jenkinson claiming the goals for the Gunners.

The visitors notably chose to fly to Norwich in 2012, and will do so again this season, but the shortened travel time did not pay off as they lost 1-0 to a Grant Holt strike. Team news Alex Tettey remains Norwich s key absence ahead of Sunday s match, though Alex Neil will welcome back captain Russell Martin, who missed the trip to Chelsea for personal reasons. Both Ramsey and Oxlade-Chamberlain are back in contention for Arsenal, though they remain without long-term absentees Mikel Arteta, Francis Coquelin, Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott, Tomas Rosicky and Danny Welbeck.

Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud both suffered injuries in the victory over Dinamo Zagreb, though neither are expected to be rested for the Norwich match. Possible line-ups (scroll over the pitch to see the formations) What they re saying Wenger: We trust the way we play. We have a desire to play our game and we find good offensive talent with defensive efficiency. Against West Brom it is true we had a bad result but it was very unfortunate to lose this game, and we have shown that with a good and quick response on Tuesday night.

Neil: If we can put Arsenal on the back foot, then hopefully that can lift the crowd and that can then spur the players on. We’re the home side and we need to make that we go and apply ourselves as well as we can to try and take something from the game. Match odds (Bet Victor) Arsenal are odds-on favourites for Sunday s match, priced at 8/13.

Norwich are at 19/4 and the draw 33/10.
