Rockland: Selectman Placed on Probabtion, Loses Driving Privilages

A Rockland Selectman has lost his privilege to drive and has been placed on probation, after he was arrested for drunk driving and carried a loaded pistol. Korey Welch received one year of probation and has lost use of his driver s license for 45 days after being charged with driving drunk and carrying a loaded pistol while under the influence of alcohol. Welch had passed out in his pickup truck at around 1:30 a.m.

Saturday while waiting in the drive-through lane of a McDonald s restaurant on Route 123. Police were called and upon arrival subjected the first term Rockland Selectman to a field sobriety test in the parking lot. Officers also found Welch in possession of a loaded semi-automatic pistol in a holster.

On Tuesday, Welch admitted to sufficient facts in the charges stemming from the incident. Hingham District Court Judge Paul McCallum continued his case without a finding. McCallum also ordered Welch to surrender his firearm and not possess any firearm for one year.

He must also pay $665 in fines.

Rockland: Selectman Faces Charges for Carry Loaded Gun, DUI

A Rockland Selectman is facing charges that he allegedly drove his vehicle and carried a loaded pistol while under the influence of alcohol. Korey Welch pleaded innocent to the charges Tuesday in Hingham District Court. According to Rockland police, Welch had passed out in his pickup truck at around 1:30 a.m.

Saturday while waiting in the drive-through lane of a McDonald s restaurant on Route 123. McDonald s manager called police and told them a customer had fallen asleep in his truck, forcing other customers to drive around to reach the food pick-up window. Police described Welch as being very clumsy, lethargic and unsteady when he was questioned and subjected to a field sobriety test in the parking lot.

But during a pat down, a loaded semi-automatic pistol in a holster was found on Welch s waistband. Police say Welch refused to take a breathalyzer test and his drivers license was seized and destroyed. He is also charged with driving to endanger.
